A retired event planner, Taiya Crowe and her husband moved to Norman five years ago. Before she discovered CART, Taiya says she spent too much time at home by herself because she didn’t have transportation. Now, she is an active member of the community, volunteering at several civic groups. “I just get on the bus and go,” Taiya says. She adds that CART gives her husband, who works 50 miles from their home, peace of mind as well. “Being able to go into the public in a safe way means so much to him,” Taiya says.
Taiya is concerned that Oklahoma is behind on funding for public transit and that services are being cut. She says with an aging population, public transit will play an even bigger role in communities.
